Yellow Daisy ACEO in acrylics

This flower  goes by quite a few different common names eg Black Eyed Susan, poorland daisy, brown betty, yellow daisy.  I went with Yellow Daisy.  It is  native to  Eastern and Central North America and is also used as a traditional Native American Medicinal Herb.

I used a more textured watercolour paper for this one as I wanted a bit of texture in the background. Really pleased with how it turned out.

A few watercolour paintings

I felt like a change so decided to paint a few watercolour landscapes - a spring and autumn scene.  I painted them together - the reason being is I am a bit impatient to let the paint dry completely so that way I could work on one and while that one dried, I work other one - worked really well.

Rocky Beach in acrylics

I felt like painting a seascape but I couldn't find any reference photos that I liked so in the end I just started painting and this painting evolved.  Really pleased with how it turned out.

Baby Swallows in acrylics

I painted this one a little bit differently to how normally do. As it was much darker background, I decided to paint the background around the birds.  It worked really well as I use the Atelier Interactive acrylics so I was able to blend the bird into the background.  Really please with how it turned out.

Xantus's Hummingbird ACEO in acrylics

Really pleased with how this one turned out.  It took quite a few glazes to get the feather colours right but I got there in the end.

Xantus's Hummingbirds are found in Baja California, Mexico.  They measure around 8 - 9 cm in length and weigh between 3 - 4 grams.

Bell's Vireo ACEO in acrylics

This one was fun to paint - everything just seemed work.

Bell's Vireo's are found in central and south western United States as well as in Northern Mexico. They measures around 11 - 12 cm in length and weigh between 7 - 10 grams. In interesting fact about them is that  no-one has ever observed them drinking water. It is believed that they may obtain all what  they need from their food.

I liked the placement of the tree and stream in reference photo but not the season which was a winter snow scene.  So I kept the placement of the stream and tree the same and changed the season to summer.  Really pleased with how it turned out.

Flavescent Warbler ACEO in acrylics

At one point I wasn't sure if this one was going to work as I was battling with the feather colours. But I kept going and added a bit a transparent red oxide to my colour mixtures which  then just seemed to bring the whole painting to life.  Really love how the final painting turned out.

I have had this one printed out for a while to paint - it just got pushed to the bottom of my ever growing pile of reference photos.  Really love how this one is perched on the branch.
