Day 27, 28 & 29 - FLower, Dog Sketch & Chocolate Icecream

These ones were quite fun to paint. I was a bit short of time for day 28 so I ended up doing a very quick sketch for the doggie but rather like how it tuned out - I rather like the messiness of it as it seems capture the quirkiness of the dog.

Day 12 - Colourful Pansy

 This one was rather fun to paint.

Daisy in acrylics

I felt like painting something completed different so decided to paint this daisy. Rather pleased with how it turned out.

Poppy in acrylics

Originally I had a yellow /green  mottled background for this one and decided that I  didn't like it so I ended up painting over the background with white. It made the background rather interesting as some of the original background colour shows through which I rather like.

Yellow Hibiscus in acrylics

This one took quite a few glazes to get the depth to the petals.

Iris No 2 in acrylics

The other pastel paper that I discovered that I could use with acrylics was the Pastelmat paper as it has a water resistant surface. 

I decided to try it out with this lovely flower.  It bit different to the Colourfix Suede paper but I also like the way the paint goes on - seems to go on smoother.

Hibiscus in acrylics

I decided to paint a flower for a change.  Originally I was going to have the flower against the white of the paper but after I had finished painting it, I decide it need a background colour.  So decided do then wash so that had more watercolour effect.  Really pleased with how it turned out.  I used quite a few glazes to get the depth to the petals.

Yellow Daisy ACEO in acrylics

This flower  goes by quite a few different common names eg Black Eyed Susan, poorland daisy, brown betty, yellow daisy.  I went with Yellow Daisy.  It is  native to  Eastern and Central North America and is also used as a traditional Native American Medicinal Herb.

I used a more textured watercolour paper for this one as I wanted a bit of texture in the background. Really pleased with how it turned out.

Yellow Daisy measures 3.5 x 2.5 inches and is painted on Daler - Rowney 'The Langton' NOT 300gsm watercolour paper.

Bee in acrylics

I have had this one printed out for ages to paint.  Just wasn't sure on the size - original had it printed out as a 6 x 6 but that cut off the edge of the flower. So  I eventually settled on 7 x 5 size which suited it perfectly.  It was a fun one to paint.

Red Rose in oils

This one was rather challenging to paint - usually I can just add white to lighten a colour but I couldn't do that this time as white turns the red to pink.  I used yellow and a bit of white to lighten the red.  I found it easier to work from a black and white reference photo which I have never done before for a painting - it was easier to determine the tonal variations using the black and white copy.  Also,  it was easier just to paint one petal at a time - was to confusing otherwise.  I am really pleased how it turned out in the end.

Poppies in oils

I felt like painting some flowers  for a change so I  painted these poppies.  Love their bright  colours.

We have been having weird weather again.  Been pouring with rain here for the last two days. Fortunately I don't live by any streams or rivers but other areas of South East Queensland are being affect by  floodings again.    Hopefully this will be last heavy rains we have for a while.
