I love the vibrant red feathers of this one. I used quite a few glazes to get the depth to the feathers.

Red Warblers are found in the highlands of Mexico. They measure around 12.5 - 13.5 cm in length and weigh between 7.6 - 8.7 grams.

Varied Sittella ACEO in acrylics

This little one was rather fun to paint - used a few glazes to get the depth to the feathers.


The Varied Sittella is also known as the Australian Nuthatch, Black-capped or Orange-winged Sittella or Barkpecker. They are found on mainland Australia.  They measure between  10 - 14 cm in length and weigh about 13 grams.

Flavescent Warbler ACEO in acrylics

At one point I wasn't sure if this one was going to work as I was battling with the feather colours. But I kept going and added a bit a transparent red oxide to my colour mixtures which  then just seemed to bring the whole painting to life.  Really love how the final painting turned out.

Snow Capped Mountain ACEO in acrylics

Decided to paint a little landscape scene for a change.  It seemed appropriate to paint a snow scene as we have a cold front on the way and there is a possibility of snow showers on the Darling Downs / Granite belt (which is about 132 km inland from Brisbane) over the weekend.  Think I will be pulling out my gloves and beanie for the weekend.

So for next painted this little scene. It was going to be just a watercolour painting, but I couldn't get the depth I wanted so I ended up using some Gouache paint too which then brought the whole painting together. Really pleased with how it final turned out.
