 This one was fun to paint - everything just worked.  I used the copper and gold metallic paint on the rocks which gives them a bit of a sparkle.

I love the feather colours of this little hummingbird.  It still amazes me how tiny they are - they only measure between 3 to 3.5 inches in length.

Margate Beach in acrylics

This spot is opposite a fish and chip shop that I often go to - it is on the Redcliffe peninsula and is about  15 minute drive away from were I live.  Normally the Bay is quite calm but if the wind is blowing then it can be rather choppy with larger waves which it was in this case and for once I had my camera with me so managed to get few reference photos

Bluebell Path in watercolours

I haven't painted a bluebell scene for a while.  I changed this one quite a bit from the reference photo - I opened up the path and added in the trees. It was rather a fun one to paint.

As I type this, I can hear thunder so looks like we will have a storm this afternoon - temperature also has dropped a bit which makes for a nice change.

Bald Ealge in acrylics

A few weeks ago I painted a smaller version of this bird and I just love the intensity of its gaze so I decided to paint a larger version.  I always worry that I won't get the depth when painting a white object but the trick is to add other colours.  I am really happy with how the final painting turned out.

Old Stable Door in acrylics

When staying in Richmond, Tasmania, the accommodation had an old stable so I took a photo of the old door front.  I used a bit of creative license with the brick work and flowers.  I used texture paste to create the texture on the walls, paths etc. The texture paste worked really well so will have to use it a bit more often when I want to create more texture in a painting.

After painting the ACEO hummingbird, I decided to paint a larger one - really enjoy painting hummingbirds that are in flight.  I have found a few more reference photos that I can use so I am planning on painting some more in the future.

Northern Flicker in acrylics

I enjoyed painting this one - just love the position bird is standing on the rock.

An interesting fact about the Northern Flicker is even though it can climb trees and hammer on wood trunks to find food like any other woodpecker, it prefers to look for food on the ground namely ants.  It has a long barded tongue that it uses to lap them up.

Rottweiler Puppy in acrylics

So this was the painting that was giving me a few problems when I was painting it but I preserved and I am really pleased how this cute Rottweiler puppy turned out.   I decided to name my puppy Rocky - he is just so adorable with those eyes.   I love the affect of this one but it was rather a challenge painting black on black so it might be a while before I do another one quite like this.

Nuthatch in acrylics

I just love the colouring of these birds and the way they can cling to trees.  Everything just worked with this one and I am really pleased with the final painting.

I am working on a very cute  puppy at the moment.  However this painting is fighting me every step of the way - funny how paintings can go - sometimes they just seem to paint themselves and other times it feels like a battle.  I am sure I will get there in the end.

A little bit of information on this bird - it an Eurasian Nuthatch and they are  found throughout temperate Asia and Europe.  They measure around 14 cm in length and weigh between 17 - 28 grams.

Magnolia Warbler in acrylics

I have wanted to paint this bird for ages but I  could see the bird sitting on a branch surrounded by flowers.  So when I was on holiday in Tasmania in October, I took lots and lots of photos of  the fruit trees that were in flower at the accommodation  I stayed at in Richmond.  This is painting I come up with by combining my reference photo of the flowers with the reference photo of the bird.   I used an old bristle brush to scrub in the background which worked really well.  I am really really pleased with the final painting.

The male breeding Magnolia Warbler is a lot more distinctive with a black necklace and black stripes down the sides so this one would be a female or juvenile.  They are about 11 - 13 cm in length and  weigh between 6 - 15 grams.

Green Pastures in acrylics

This was the view from my accommodation when staying in Deloraine, Tasmania last year.  The self contained cottages were situated on the owners farm overlooking a lake.  It was very scenic and it was lovely waking up to feed the ducks and swans and watch the sheep across the lake.

I have had this one printed out for ages to paint.  I started painting it in acrylics a while back but was never happy with it so I never finished it - I ended up painting over it.  I finally decided that it was more suited towards a watercolour painting. and I am really pleased with the final result.

Summer River in Watercolours

I couldn't decide on which medium to paint this one in. So in the end I decided to paint it in watercolours  but I will also be painting a 6 x 6 inch acrylic version.  For the acrylic version, the foliage will be a darker green and I am going to open up the river on the right hand side ie the trees on the right hand side will go and I will extend the background trees   - that is the plan anyway -  will see how it goes.

Carmine Bee - Eater in watercolours

So this is the full bird painted in watercolours.  I just love this birds feather colours and I am really pleased with the final painting. I went with the 8 x 6 inch size in the end.  I still want to paint another Carmine Bee - Eater but I will paint it in acrylics.
