Red Billed Leiothrix ACEO in acrylics

I love how this one is perched on the branch.  It was a bit more tricky to paint due to the different angle it is perched on the branch but I was up for the challenge.


Red Billed Leiothrix are native to China and the Himalayas.  They were introduced to quite a few countries including Hawaiian Islands in 1918. They measure around 14 - 15 cm in length and weigh between 18 - 28 grams.  They are known by quite a few names including Pekin Robin, Pekin Nightingale, Japanese Nightingale and Japanese Robin.

I was going through my photos that I took a few year back and came across this one.  I did take it from quite a distance so the quality was not that great but I really the way it is posing on the branch so decide to paint it.  Rather pleased with how it turned out.

Yellow Billed Kingfishers are found in lowland  New Guinea and adjacent islands and extends to Northern Cape York Peninsula in Australia.  They measure around 20 cm in length and weigh about 40 grams.

This one was a bit tricky to paint re black feathers.  I used a  few glazes to get the depth to the feathers.

This one was a little bit more tricky to paint that I originally thought it would be as it took me quite a few goes to get the right colour mix for the feathers.
