Swallow Tailed Bee-Eater in acrylics

I love the feather colours of this one.  I used quite a few combinations of blue/yellow for feathers and I also went looking for my sap green tube of paint.  I any ever use the sap green when painting green feathers as I usually need it for the final glazes to the feathers.

Rufous Fantail in acrylics

I was going through my photos that I took a few year back and came across this one.  I did take it from quite a distance so the quality was not that great but I really the way it is posing on the branch so decide to paint it.  Rather pleased with how it turned out.

Chestnut Backed Chickadee No 3 in acrylics

I love how this little guy is perched on the branch and the tilt of his head.  Really pleased with how it turned out.

My brush order arrived today from Rosemary & Co in UK -  I was down to my last spare Designer Pointed Sable Mixture size 4 brush.  I order 10 size 4 brushes so that should last me awhile.  For most of my paintings, I use a flat brush for the background and for the rest of the painting I use a Pointed Size 4 brush.  So I go through quite a few of them as once the  point goes, I have to replace them.  They do last really well through - the last order I placed was back in February and I only order 6 of them.  And finally I sign my name with Rigger Script brush.

Squirrel in acrylics

I couldn't resist painting this cute little guy. I used a lot of glazes to get the depth and colour to the fur and I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Black Tailed Gnatcatcher in acrylics

I love the different colour background of this one - it just seems to compliment the grey little bird perfectly.  Really pleased with how it turned out.

Black Tailed Gnatcatchers are a tiny songbird found in arid South Western United States and Northern Mexico.  They measure around 11 - 13 cm in length and weigh between 5.1 - 6 grams.

Country Track in acrylics

I changed this one quite a bit when compared to the reference photo by taking out the shrub foliage on the left to show the fields and mountain and I left  out a large tree on the right.  Really pleased with how the final painting turned out.

Superb Fairy Wren in acrylics

I finally managed to get some good shots of the Fairy Wrens down by one of the man - made lakes in my area.  It was a perfect spot - the tree branch didn't have much foliage, the sun light was just right and the wrens stayed around for about 15 minutes hunting for insects and hopping between two branches.
