Autumn River 2 in acrylics

I nearly gave up on this one.  I started it and didn't like how it was going so decided to wipe it and paint something else instead.  But after wiping it, the basic elements of the painting were still visible and I still liked the composition so decided to give it another go.  Glad that I started again as I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Autumn River 2 measures 10 x 8 inches and is painted on Colourfix Suede paper.

Many thanks to Ro Lovelock for the reference photo.

Ruby Throated Hummingbird in acrylics

I really enjoyed painting this one - everything just seems to work.

The Ruby Throated Hummingbird is the smallest bird that breeds in Eastern United States and Eastern Canada.  It measures only 7 - 9 cm in length and weighs between 2 - 6 grams.  This one is a female as it doesn't have the ruby red throat patch.

Ruby Throated Hummingbird measures 8 x 10 inches and is painted on Fredrix Archival Watercolour Canvas Board.

Many thanks to Rodney Campbell for the reference photo.

Autumn Begins in Watercolours

I ended up having to paint this one twice.  I bought new masking tape which I normally use around the border of a watercolour painting.  Never had a problem before but when I removed the masking tape this time, it tore the watercolour paper.  So I had start again.  Second time round I didn't use masking tape - just means I have a more messy border.

Autumn begins measures 10 x 8 inches and is painted on 300gsm Daler Rowney "The Langton" NOT watercolour paper .

Many thanks to Nicola B for the reference photo.

Country Bridge in watercolours

I felt like a break from detail so painted this country scene.  Rather pleased how it turned out.  I usually find by just painting a watercolour painting then I feel ready to go back to detail. Working on a cute lion cub at the moment.  It is coming along nicely - will post it next week once the paint has had time to cure.

Country Bridge measures 10 x 8 and is painted on 300gsm rough Arches watercolour paper.

Calm before the Storm in watercolours

Really pleased how this one turned out.  I set out to create a very stormy looking sky - was going to use Payne's grey for the darkest part of the sky but I always find that it dries a lot lighter so decided to try out Indigo colour  that I bought a few weeks - really worked well and I love the effect it created so will have to use colour a bit more often.

Calm before the Storm measures 10 x 8 inches and is painted on 300gsm rough Arches watercolour paper.
