I loved painting this one - everything just seemed to work.  I did quite  a few layers / glazes to  build up the fur detail.

White Tiger Cub in acrylics

This is my second take on this one.  Originally I painted it a few months back on a canvas panel and I didn't like it so I ended up painting over it with gesso and reusing the panel.  This time round I decided paint it on the Colourfix Paper and I am really pleased with how it turned out.

White Tiger Cub measures 8 x inches and is painted on 500gsm Colourfix Suede paper.

I haven't painted a tiger in ages and I love this ones close up profile.  I used quite a few layers to get the depth to the fur and I am really pleased with the final painting.

Snow Leopard in acrylics

I love everything about this one.  Really pleased with the final painting.  I used a lot of glazes to get the depth to the fur and the rock was fun to paint - used my fingers quite a bit in the beginning.

Lioness in acrylics

I really enjoyed painting this one.  I started off with a burnt sienna undercoat, blocked in the lioness, painted in the black background and then the finished the by painting in the finer details of the lioness.  Also used a bit of medium to thin the paint for the finer details mainly because the water was diluting the paint a bit too much.  I am really pleased with the final painting.

Leopard ACEO in acrylics

I decided to paint another animal aceo.  This one gave me few problems but I kept working on until I was happy with the final painting. 

I am planning on painting a 6 x 8 inch  leopard but haven't decided yet if  I am going to use oils or acrylics - if I paint it in oils then I will have to wait for each layer to dry before working on the next one so at the moment I am leaning towards acrylics.

Tiger in acrylics

I have had this one on my list to paint for ages.  Love the intensity of the eyes.  I actually started it, wasn't happy with how it was going and to put it one side.  About two weeks later, I relooked at it and worked out that my fur colour was not quite right which was throwing off the whole painting.  So I reworked the fur and finally the painting come together.  Really pleased with the final piece.

Tiger ACEO in acrylics

I am really pleased with this one.  I found the perfect mixture for the tigers fur -  a mixture of Permanent Alizarin Crimson,  Transparent Yellow and Ultramarine Blue  - works beautiful. 

It has been really hot and humid here for the last week or so.  Fingers crossed the cool change will come through this evening.

Cheetah ACEO in acrylics

I photographed this lovely cat at Australia Zoo a few years ago.  I must actually see if I can visit there again this year. I only like going during the cooler months so will see latter on this year.   I final placed my order for my larger panels. Since I like both the Ampersand Panels and the Raymar panels I ended up ordering 24 Ampersand panels and 20 Raymar panels.  They should all arrive next week which is great as I have quite a few larger painting planned for the next few weeks.

So this is the very cute lion cub that I was working on last week. I really enjoyed painting him.  I have a tiger cub lined up next to paint.  Just didn't get around to it this week.  Just been one of those weeks were other things have come up  so didn't mange to paint all the paintings that I had planned to do.

I wasn't sure if this one was going to work.  But I kept working on it and eventually it started to come together.  Rather pleased with the final painting.  I am enjoying painting the animal aceo's so will look for some more reference photos that I can use.

Nearly gave up on this one but I have learnt that sometimes you just have to keep working on a painting and suddenly it just starts to come right.  Fortunately it worked with this one.  Rather pleased how it turned out in the end.  I had to use the number 4/0 round brush again for the eyes.

I decided to paint this one after all.  I had to use my 4/0 sable brush for the eyes  as I need to get a bit more detail - I usually can just use a no 3 but with the different colours in eyes I need a much finer brush.  I am rather please how it turned out in the end.

Snow Leopard ACEO in acrylics

So for my first painting for 2014, I decided to challenge myself and paint a snow leopard but in the ACEO size.  It was rather fun painting an animal for a change and I am really pleased how it turned out so I will be painting more animal aceo's this year.

Today has been really hot - I have been running the air conditioner since 7.15 am.  Tomorrow they are predicting that Brisbane will reach 41C!!!!.  Never experienced temperatures this high before.  I think it will be another day of staying home and running the air-conditioner - at least I should be able to paint the bird aceo's that I had planned to paint earlier this week but never got around to.

Tiger in oils

I photographed this beautiful tiger at Taronga Zoo, Sydney a few years ago. I am very happy how it turned out.  Taronga Zoo is lovely place- would like to go back again - I didn't even manage to visit the Australian wildlife sections - spent too long watching the big cats.
