Pink Robin in acrylics

On one of my holidays to Tasmania a few years back, I specifically went looking for the Pink Robin. On the forest walk, I never come across him but when I got back the car, there he was admiring himself in the car's side mirrors.  I took lots of photos but only ended up painting one aceo from the batch I took mainly because the photos are not the best reference photos to use -  he is sitting on a blue car mirror and the background is not that great either.   900 plus paintings later, I have started to revisit my earlier photos as I see things a little bit differently now.  For this one, I love the tilt of his head but that was about all I liked in the reference photo.  So I ended up adding a branch, changing the background colour and  highlights.  Really love how the painting turned out.

Pink Robin in watercolours

So this was the next one that I painted.  I love painting the pink robin - brings back memories of my holiday to Tasmania.  Very happy how it turned out.  Maybe a should paint a series of watercolour robins - I will have to see what other reference photos I can find.

Pink Robin ACEO in acrylics

I couldn't wait to  paint the Pink Robin I saw at Liffey Falls so here he is. They are not found in Queensland - they are only found in south-eastern Australia and are listed as Vulnerable in New South Wales. They are a lovely little bird - I was really lucky to have come back to the car park just when he was admiring himself in the car's side mirror otherwise I wouldn't have got any reference photos.  They move too quickly in the forest.

Pink Robin ACEO in acrylics

I couldn't resist painting this  robin - I love it's colouring.  These robins are only found in south eastern Australia so they are not found here in Queensland. Which is a pity as I would love to see them.
