Scarlet Robin ACEO in acrylics

I took a break from painting bird ACEO's for a few months but decided to paint a few at the end of December to see if I wanted to get back into painting them each week. The short answer is probably not  - I will probably just paint a few every now and again but not regular.  I do have a lot of off cuts of  paper which are the perfect size for ACEO's so I might play around with painting more ACEO landscapes.

Scarlet Robin ACEO in acrylics

I love paintings robins - they are just so colourful.  Really pleased with the final painting.

Scarlet Robins are found near the coast from southern Queensland to central south Australia, south west Western Australia as well as Tasmania.  They range from 12 to 13.5 cm in length and weigh between 12 and 14 grams.

Scarlet Robin in Acrylics

I did finish the butterfly painting - actually only finished it on Friday - took longer to paint than I thought it would.  Just waiting for the paint to cure before varnishing it so will post it in the next few days. 

This is the other one I had lined up to paint. I am rather pleased how it turned out.  Scarlet Robins can be found across Australia and can be confused with the Flame Robin.  The Scarlet Robin has a larger white patch above its bill compared to the Flame Robin.

I usually use French Ultramarine blue for the background blue colour but this time around I used Prussian blue as I wanted a cooler blue.  I am really pleased with this one.  Some interesting information about Scarlet robins is that they range in length  from 12 to 13.5 cm and weigh between 12 to 14 grams.

I decided to paint an Australian robin for a change.  It can be found in south eastern and south western Australia.  Australia actually has quite a few difference species of robins.  I will have to see if I can find some copyright free reference photos for the other robins.
