I love this one's eyes so I couldn't resist painting her.  I did quite a few glazes to get the depth to the fur.

Lion ACEO in acrylics

I love the intensity of this lions eyes.    I started off with a Burnt Umber/ Raw Sienna background which worked rather as the base colour for the lions fur.

I am planning on painting some more lions. I  took some photos of  white lions including some very adorable cubs when visiting Tasmania last year. They are on my growing list of paintings to do - my list is up to around the 30 mark now and I keep adding to it but I will eventually get around to painting them.

Red Squirrel ACEO in acrylics

I couldn't resist painting this little fellow - he is just so cute.  I am really pleased how he turned out - it all just seemed to come together..  I used the same colour combination as I did for the tigers fur - I just added a bit of burnt umber so vary the colour here and there.

I wasn't sure if this one was going to work.  But I kept working on it and eventually it started to come together.  Rather pleased with the final painting.  I am enjoying painting the animal aceo's so will look for some more reference photos that I can use.

Snow Leopard ACEO in acrylics

So for my first painting for 2014, I decided to challenge myself and paint a snow leopard but in the ACEO size.  It was rather fun painting an animal for a change and I am really pleased how it turned out so I will be painting more animal aceo's this year.

Today has been really hot - I have been running the air conditioner since 7.15 am.  Tomorrow they are predicting that Brisbane will reach 41C!!!!.  Never experienced temperatures this high before.  I think it will be another day of staying home and running the air-conditioner - at least I should be able to paint the bird aceo's that I had planned to paint earlier this week but never got around to.

Raccoon ACEO in Acrylics

I used about four different reference photos to create this scene.  Started off with the raccoon and then thought about the scene I could create around him.  It was fun seeing my initial pencil sketch take shape while painting.  I am really pleased with the final painting.

Siames Cat ACEO in acrylics

This one was fun to paint.  It took a while to get the fur colour right but I got there in the end.  I started off with a light green background and once I had painted the cat I darkened it so that the cat was pushed forward.  I love the blue eyes of this cat. I will have to look for some more reference photos.

I have wanted to paint this little fellow for a while but have been looking for the right landscape setting.  I finally found it.  I am really happy how it turned out.  I actually enjoyed painting the mountains and water so I might do another painting based on the landscape reference photo.

I couldn't resist painting this cute little rabbit.  It was a tricky painting the black fur - at one point the rabbit looked awful but once I added some highlights it started to take shape.

Hiding in the Flowers ACEO in Acrylics

I have wanted to paint this one for ages.  Decided to paint it in the ACEO size - I just had to wait for my new brushes which arrived yesterday.  I really needed the smaller brushes for this one.  It is surprising how small one can paint - just need a smaller enough brush and a steady hand.

I have had this one on my to do list for a while but  couldn't decide if I should paint it or draw it.  Finally decided that it would look great as an ACEO so decide to do it as a pencil drawing. I am rather pleased how it turned out.

"Now what?" (Cat ACEO) in acrylics

This one was rather tricky to paint due to the colour of the cat and the size.  I had to make sure that I added other colours to the cats fur to add some depth.   I have found that a  no 1 round brush is the brush to use when painting this small.  I could do with one size smaller so I must order some more brushes from the UK. I think the title "Now What?" suits this little painting.
