Chestnut Backed Chickadee No 3 in acrylics

I love how this little guy is perched on the branch and the tilt of his head.  Really pleased with how it turned out.

My brush order arrived today from Rosemary & Co in UK -  I was down to my last spare Designer Pointed Sable Mixture size 4 brush.  I order 10 size 4 brushes so that should last me awhile.  For most of my paintings, I use a flat brush for the background and for the rest of the painting I use a Pointed Size 4 brush.  So I go through quite a few of them as once the  point goes, I have to replace them.  They do last really well through - the last order I placed was back in February and I only order 6 of them.  And finally I sign my name with Rigger Script brush.

Lilac Breasted Roller in acrylics

I really enjoyed painting this one - love this ones  feather colours.  I did quite a few glazes to get depth and colour to its feathers.

Forest Double Collared Sunbird in acrylics

I love the colouring of this ones feathers.  I used quite a few glazes to build up the depth to the feathers.  There are a few colours that I only ever use once in while and for this one I decided to use a  premixed green (sap green)  for the green feathers -  normally I mix my own greens.  It worked rather well as it is a more intense and transparent so it was  ideal for glazing.

Madagascar Magpie Robin in acrylics

I love the way this one is perched on the branch and feather highlights. Really pleased with how it turned out. I used quite a few glazes to get the depth and shape to the feathers.

As the name suggests, these birds are endemic to Madagascar.

Sacred Kingfisher in acrylics

I was looking at some photos that  I took years ago at Taronga Zoo and came across this one.  Really like the way it is perched on the branch and the angle of its head so decided to paint it.

Orange Breasted Waxbill in acrylics

I love the feather colours of this one -  really pleased with how it turned out.  I also tried out  a new red (Napthol Crimson) as they have discontinued one of the reds I used to use.  Mixed with yellow it makes a really a nice  vibrant orange which work really well for this painting.
