Couch's Kingbird ACEO in acrylics

So for my next one, I painted this one.  I love how all its feathers are fluffed up.

Couch's Kingbird is found in North America.  They measure around 20 - 24 cm in length and weigh about 40 grams.

American Kestrel ACEO in acrylics

I couldn't decide on what two bird aceo's to paint this week.  Finally decided on this lovely falcon.  I am planning on painting the full bird  but I just love its colouring and markings so decided to paint a little head study first.

The American Kestrel is a small falcon found in North and South America.  It measures between 22 - 31 cm in length and weighs  between 80 - 165 grams. 

American Kestrel measures 3.5 x 2.5 inches and is painted on 300gsm smooth Arches watercolour paper.

Bluebell Forest in acrylics

I have been enjoying painting  acrylic landscapes lately so I decided to paint this lovely scene. I also painted a Summer Forest scene that I will post next week - I like to wait  about 10 days for the paint to cure before varnishing.

Wren ACEO in acrylics

I have had this one printed out for ages to paint but I was thinking about what colours I would use to paint a predominately brown bird.  I ended up using Transparent Yellow, Alizarine crimson, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber and Burnt Umber + white.  It worked really well.

Spot Breasted Parrotbill ACEO in acrylics

I love the position this one is sitting on the branch - really pleased with how it turned out.

Spot Breasted Parrotbill's are also known as White-throated Parrotbill or Rufous-headed Parrotbill.  They are found in China, India, Bangladesh, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.  They measure around 18 - 22 cm in length weigh between 28 - 40 grams.

Blue Masked Lovebird ACEO in acrylics

I photographed this cutie when visiting a  zoo in Tasmania. I also have another photo of one that I plan to paint but its colouring is green, black and yellow which is their natural colouring.

Lovebirds are native to inland Tanzania, Africa.  The are many different colour variations that have been bred in captivity.  The natural colouring of the lovebird is a green body colour with a mostly black head and a yellow collar. The blue colouring has been bred in captivity.  Lovebirds measure around 13 -17 cm in length weigh between 40 - 60 grams.

I loved painting this one.  Everything just worked and I am really pleased with how it turned out.

The Hooded Warbler is found in North America and winters in Central America and the West Indies.  They measure around 13 cm in length and weigh between 9 - 12 grams.
