Wren in acrylics

This one was a bit more tricky to paint than I thought it would be.  I ended up doing a few glazes to  get the depth to the feathers.  Really pleased with how the final painting turned out.

Wren measures 5 x 5 inches and is painted on Colourfix Suede Paper.

Wren ACEO in acrylics

I have had this one printed out for ages to paint but I was thinking about what colours I would use to paint a predominately brown bird.  I ended up using Transparent Yellow, Alizarine crimson, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber and Burnt Umber + white.  It worked really well.

Wren measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches and is painted on 300gsm smooth Arches Watercolour paper.

Little Wren ACEO in Acrylics

I photographed this little wren a few years ago when visiting Canberra. They move so quickly so it is rather difficult to get a good shot.  I am very happy  how this one turned out.  I thought it would be difficult to paint it this small but I actually found it ok - just used small brushes.  Also it was easier to do a wash first for the background  and then  paint the little wren once the background had dried.
