I photographed the little female wren last weekend down by the lake near me so decided to paint her together with a little male.

Mexican Chickadee ACEO in acrylics

This one was fun to paint - everything just seemed to work.

As the name suggests, Mexican Chickadees are found in Mexico and also in  the extreme South Eastern Arizona and South Western New Mexico. They measure around 12.5 to 13.5 cm  in length and weigh between 7.5 - 11 grams.

Hooded Warbler in acrylics

I love the different angle of this ones head.  It was a bit more tricky to paint and I used quite a few glazes to get the depth to the feathers.  Really pleased with how I turned out.

Golden Crowned Sparrow ACEO in acrylics

This one was rather fun to paint - everything just seemed to work.

This one was a bit of a challenge to paint re white fur.  I did quite a few layers to get the depth to the fur.  Really please with how it turned out.

Golden Cheeked Warbler in acrylics

I love how this one is perched on the branch and couldn't resist painting it.

I usually only use phthalo blue in a seascape painting or when painting blue feathers. But when I came to do this one, I accidentally picked up the tube of  phthalo blue paint instead of Ultramarine Blue. So since it was now on my pallet, I decided to experiment with it in my background colours and really like the results.

This is another one that I have had printed out for ages to paint.  Just had to think about how I was going to paint the flowers and finally decided to give it a go.  Really pleased with how it turned out.
