Bell's Sparrow in acrylics

This one was rather fun to paint - everything just seemed to work.

Bell's Sparrows are found Western United States and North Western Mexico.  They measure around 12 - 15 cm in length and weigh between 15 - 22 grams.

River Forest No 2 in acrylics

And for something different, a landscape for a change.  I used the reference photo for the placement of the river but other than that I sort evolved as I painted.

I was looking at some photos that  I took years ago at Taronga Zoo and came across this one.  Really like the way it is perched on the branch and the angle of its head so decided to paint it.

Orange Breasted Waxbill in acrylics

I love the feather colours of this one -  really pleased with how it turned out.  I also tried out  a new red (Napthol Crimson) as they have discontinued one of the reds I used to use.  Mixed with yellow it makes a really a nice  vibrant orange which work really well for this painting.

I love how this one is perched on the branch singing away.

Yellow Breasted Tits are a subspecies of the Azure Tit and are found in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Wren in acrylics

This one was a bit more tricky to paint than I thought it would be.  I ended up doing a few glazes to  get the depth to the feathers.  Really pleased with how the final painting turned out.

Slate Throated Redstart ACEO in acrylics

The Slate Throated Redstarts are found from Northern Mexico south to Northern Bolivia.  Depending on their location, their belly feathers vary from red, yellow to orange.  They measure around 12 cm in length.
