Silvereye in acrylics

For this one I experimented a bit with the background.  I used quite a bit of medium to blend the paint and to add glazes in order to create the background.  Really please the final painting.

Silvereye measures 8 x 6 inches and is painted on Raymar Feather Lite Canvas panel.

White Breasted Nuthatch ACEO in acrylics

I love how these birds are able to cling to trees. I am also planning on painting another one but it will be 6 x 6 inches and the nuthatch is sitting on a rock.

The White Breasted Nuthatch is a small songbird found across temperate North America.  They range between 13 - 14 cm in length and weigh between 18 - 30 grams.

Yellow Throated Vireo ACEO in acrylics

Yellow Throated Vireo's are a small songbird that are found in Southern Canada and Eastern United States during the breeding months.  They migrate to Central America, the  deep southern United States and Mexico.  They range between 13 - 15 cm in length and weigh between 15 - 21 grams.

Great Kiskadee ACEO in acrylics

I enjoyed painting this one.  Everything just worked.

The Great Kiskadee is  a large tyrant flycatcher  found in Southern Texas and  from Mexico through South America. The range in length from 21 - 27 cm and weigh between 52 - 68 grams.

Owl in acrylics

For this painting, I decided to start off with a white background.   I then blocked in the owl, painted in the background using more transparent washes (hence the reason for starting off with a white background)  and then added in the final details.  Worked rather well and I am really pleased with the final painting.

Old Stable Door in acrylics

When staying in Richmond, Tasmania, the accommodation had an old stable so I took a photo of the old door front.  I used a bit of creative license with the brick work and flowers.  I used texture paste to create the texture on the walls, paths etc. The texture paste worked really well so will have to use it a bit more often when I want to create more texture in a painting.

Whinchat ACEO in acrylics

With this one, I had the background a bit too light to begin with but once I darkened it, the painting just come to life. Rather pleased how it finally turned out.

The Whinchat is found in Europe and Western Asia and winter in Africa.  They range between 12 - 14 cm in length and weigh between 13 - 26 grams.

Whinchat measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches and is painted on 300gsm Arches smooth watercolour paper.
