Hummingbird in acrylics

I really enjoyed painting this one.  One thing I do really like about the gessobord panel compared to the canvas panel is the smooth surface as it allows me to get  a more mottled background affect.   Also helps using the different brand of professional white acrylic paint to my normal brand which can be reopen with water so it does pay to experiment with different brands to find the right combination that works.

Hummingbird 2 measures 6 x 6 inches and is painted on Ampersand Gessobord panel.

Humming Bird ACEO in acrylics

This one was fun to paint.  I did have to paint it twice though.  First time round I wasn't happy with the neck feathers - they just looked to flat and lifeless - tried fixing them but in the end I decided to start again.  Much happier with them the second time around.

Humming Bird measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches and is painted on 300gsm smooth watercolour paper.

Humming Bird in Acrylics

I love the  colours of the humming bird so bright and colourful.  I don't get that many colourful birds visiting my garden so I love to  paint them instead.  Australia does have some beautiful birds but they just don't visit my garden - probably to built up for them.  I have seen some lovely little blue wrens on my walk down to the lake but they tend to stay down by the water and the trees.  I want to try and get a good photo of them but they move so quickly so not sure if they will ever sit still long enough for me to get a good photo reference.  Will just have to keep trying - I might be lucky one day.

Humming Bird is painted on 6 x 6 inches Ampersand gessobord.
