I love play of light on this one's  feathers..  I did quite a few layers / glazers to build up the feathers and get the affect I was after.

Winter Cardinal in acrylics

I have had this one on my list to paint for a while and with Christmas just around the corner, I thought it was rather an appropriate  one to paint.   Painting a red bird is always a bit tricky as you can't really use white to lighten areas. I ended up using quite a few glazes to get the depth to the feathers.

So here is my next bird ACEO.  I just love the colour of this bird - so very bright. Could have done with the new brushes I have ordered when painting this one - hopefully they will  arrive next week.
