Mountain Chickadee ACEO in acrylics

I love the way this one is perched on the branch. 

Mountain Chickadees are found in the United States.  They are around  11 - 14 cm in length and weigh about  11 grams.

Blue Manakin ACEO in acrylics

I love colours of this birds feathers.  I used a few glazed to get depth and colour to the feathers. 

Blue Manakin's (also known as Swallow - Tailed Manakin) are found Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.  They measure around 14.5  - 15 cm in length and weigh between 25 - 26 grams.

I used quite a few glazes to get the colour and depth to the feathers.  Really pleased with the final painting.

I reworked this on after I thought I was finished.  Decided that the rocks were a bit dull so I did a glaze of red oxide over them and added in the clouds which seemed to complete the painting.

Bluebell Glade in acrylics

This painting start out as a snow scene with a partly frozen river but it was not working so I changed it completely and painted a bluebell scene. The only element that I used from the reference photo was the placement of the river.    I also tried out a new colour for the trees  - Transparent Red Oxide.  Really like it and when mixed with Ultramarine Blue it creates a interesting black.   Really pleased with how this one turned out.

I was looking through my photos and came across the photo's I took when on holiday in Tasmania a few years back and decided to paint this scene.  I enjoy painting the seascapes so I must take a trip  to the Sunshine Coast and take some more references photos of the beach, waves etc.

Common Tody Flycatcher ACEO in acrylics

And for my next one I painted this little one.  I love the position it is perched on the branch. 

The Common Tody Flycatcher is also known as the Black Fronted Tody Flycatcher and is found in Southern Mexico to north western Peru, Eastern Bolivia and southern Brazil.  It measures around 9.5  - 10.2 cm in length and weighs between 6.5 - 6.8 grams.
